Ashley and Max are finally at the Mauville Gym. They have an electrifying introduction to Wattson, the Gym's leader, who specializes in Electric-type Pokémon.

Upon entering the gym, Wattson declares that the match will be a three-on-three and he will be using his Voltorb, Magnemite, and Magneton, and as he's been training with them all for years, Ashley should expect a tough battle.

Max is shocked that Wattson disclosed which Pokémon he'll be using, before turning his attention to Ashley’s potential choices.

"Let's go, Arcanine!" Ashley said as she sends out her starter Pokémon.

Ashley's Growlithe evolved via Fire Stone.

Watt announces that the Gym match between Ashley versus Wattson can begin.

Wattson laughs, happy that Ashley is using a Fire-type against his Electric-type, and commands Magnemite to use Swift.

Ashley responds by having Arcanine use Flamethrower, which proves so powerful that it knocks out Magnemite with a single hit.

Arcanine is switched out for Beautifly.

Wurmple evolved all the way into a Beautifly.

Wattson is stunned, but still jovial and sends in Voltorb, telling it to use Screech.

Ashley has Beautifly use Stun Spore, leaving Voltorb completely paralyzed.

Finally, Wattson sends in Magneton, which allows Ashley to send in Sentret.

Sentret was caught by Ashley after she saved him from a forest fire.

Ashley has Sentret use Thunderbolt, which easily plows through the Zap Cannon blast and knocks Magneton out instantly.

Everyone is shocked and amazed, but Wattson recovers and hands Ashley the Dynamo Badge.

As Ashley and her friend prepare to leave for Petalburg, Watt tells Max that there's an upcoming Pokémon Contest in nearby Verdanturf Town, so the trio decides to head there first.
