Behind the glass
3. Chapter
Lucas - February 3, 2019

"In the morning, I said goodbye to Maggie and went to work. She starts work later. She promised to cook me dinner when I got home from work. So I was looking forward to going home. When I got home, I had a strange feeling. I expected her to be home cooking, but she wasn't there. I thought maybe she went out to buy something, but she didn't come back after an hour and we have a grocery store 10 minutes away by foot from the house. After an hour, I started calling her out of my mind. I also called her family and friends to see if she had stopped there by chance, but no one saw her. And that's when I called the police." I told one of the policemen in the office. Tears welled up in my eyes, but I fought them bravely. I didn't know what happened to my beloved Maggie. You don't want to imagine that feeling. All the time I wondered if she was alive, if she was okay. Sometimes I tried to call her, but to no avail. "Did she have any enemies?" the investigator at the police station asked me. "No, I don't know about any," I answered, "she hasn't mentioned anyone like that to me yet, but..." there was a short pause. "But what?" asked the investigator. "You have to tell us everything you know, even what you think is unimportant, that's the only way we can find her." "...but," I continued, "she once mentioned to me that every time she left work, she felt as if someone was watching her, but every time she turned around, she saw no one, and the interesting thing was that the feeling was only on one leg of the journey home." "On which one, do you know exactly?" asked the investigator. "She mentioned that it was the first 200 meters from her work." "Ah," thought the investigator and continued to scribble something in his notebook.
