The Guilt Within Me
I opened my eyes and stretched my arms out, yawning loudly at the same time. I looked at the clock on my bedside table, it said 10 o’clock.
Oh no! I'm late for school. A few seconds later while getting ready, I heard a soft tapping at my bedroom door. I knew it would be Tatiana, our maid, bringing me my morning tea.
“Come in!”
The door opened and Tatiana came into my room, I smiled at her,
“Morning Tatiana!”
She looked at me, but instead of answering, she suddenly started screaming.
“You silly child- you are late for school!”
The next thing I knew she had collapsed onto my bedroom floor.
She had been in the hospital for high blood pressure the last few days and had just recovered.
“Tatiana! Tatiana! What’s the matter!, I said”
I ran over to her, I tried to wake her but she was unresponsive.
I shook her but her eyes remained closed.
“Mum, Dad, help! Something has happened to Tatiana!”
My Mum and Dad came running into my room.
“What happened Aaron?, my parents asked”
“She just came into my room and then started screaming that I was late for school.”
“We’d better get her to the hospital.”
My Dad carried Tatiana down the stairs and put her into his car, when we arrived at the hospital the Doctors put Tatiana onto a stretcher and rushed her off to the emergency room. A Nurse told us to wait in the family room.
“She’s going to be ok isn’t she?, I asked”
“She is in good hands now, the Doctors will do everything they can to save her life, my parents replied”
The three of us sat waiting in the family room, all I could hear was the ticking of the clock on the wall. It seemed like an eternity before the door opened. As soon as I saw the look on the Doctor's face, I knew that Tatiana had died.
“NO!!, I screamed”
My Mum put her arm around me and hugged me.
I was feeling pretty guilty since I was the one that she shouted at and raised her blood pressure. All I know is that I will feel guilty every day of my life.
