Grey Ambience#8
It is late night. Cadoc and Ava are in the coach. Ava is asleep, clinging to Cadoc's arm with her head on his shoulder.

Everything is quiet except the clicking hoofs of the horses that pulls the coach and the owls in the night.

Cadoc looks outside at the street lamps, and back at Ava. The lights from outside fall on her beuatiful face.
She wraps her arms tighter around his with a slight smile.

CADOC
"If you could be with me. It wouldn't be weird. But I don't want you mixed up with my problems. It's...it's too risky. I have to keep avoiding that part of...us".

AVA
(Lazily, half asleep)
Aren't we there yet Cad?

CADOC
No...not yet sleeping beauty. Just a little longer.
(She sighs)
.

At home.

Amber sits on the bed with the blanket to his waist and a book in his hand. There's a lamp by the bed and a few other books with spectacles on them.
Cadoc stands a short distance by the shelves.

AMBER
I thought so too. He was Hamzer? It's been long since I met that man. (Pause) You had something to tell me?

CADOC
It's...about me. And what happened before you took me in. I have to go to Hearth.
(Pulls book from shelf)
It's...where my mother told me to be. She told me to get to someone...someone who would help me.

AMBER
So you'll be leaving for a while?

CADOC
I have to find answers. Why...all that happened. Who Alentinio is. Who that man was.
(Sighs deeply)
And why he had to kill my parents for the relic. I have to do it. Or I'll keep being in the  (Lowers head)

AMBER
I understand...what about Ava?
(Pause, Cadoc raises head)
Even though she tries to hide it, you know she's in love with you.
How would she feel?
I'll try to keep her company but it won't be enough now I'm bedridden. My wife isn't kind either. She'd be a quite lonely.

CADOC
(Sighs deeply) I can't take her. My hands are tied. I won't take long Papa. I'll come back soon. That time you'll be walking again.

AMBER
Hm...I see. (Laughs) Well, do you feel the same way like she does for you?

CADOC
(looks away) I don't want her hurt.

AMBER
Hmm, is it because you're an Aperture? (Cadoc turns to him)
Don't look like that...I knew a few days after I met you. I have worked with Hamzer for long enough to know them. Your secret is safe with me.
Bring me my meds. (Smiles)

Sometime after

AVA
Take me with you! You can't leave me alone here Cad.

CADOC
It's difficult for me too. (tears form in Ava's eyes) I'm sorry but I can't do anything about it.

AVA
Alright I understand...it's very important for you. (wipes tears) You don't have to be sorry.

CADOC
(Feeling a kind of guilt he can't ignore)
Ava...let me show you something.

He takes her by the hand to the little box the relic is in on the shelf.

CADOC
I trust you enough to show you...what Apertures see. You wanted to see it right?

AVA
No Cadoc...wouldn't that put you in danger? If you touch it...the man...

CADOC
I know that he'll find me. He'll find me anyways. I can't hide forever so I must face my fear now.

AVA
No...I don't want to see anything anymore. What if he does something to you when he finds you?

CADOC
I'll be fine trust me. (Smiles sadly)

Once his hands touches the relic, the world flashes grey and he winces at the pain. He takes Ava's hand and suddenly the flashing calms into nothing and his hands stop shaking.

Ava trembles and her eyes are wide. Her jaw drops in disbelief. The whole place id colourful. The brown shelf, embroidery sheets, the mirror, the walls.

She walks slowly to the window, the streets lamps glow yellow. The white moon is a tint of red and the blue black skies had tiny stars. She felt the velvet curtains between her fingers and turned to Cadoc.

She's in a blue dress, with green leaves and red roses designed into them. She's still in shock.

AVA
This...is...(her mind can't make up the words) This...is amazing. (Tears, laughs) What 'kalor' is your eyes?

CADOC
My eyes are grey.

AVA
(She cups her hand against his cheek)
They're so pretty. You look...so different.

(The whole place slowly pales into grey again and she takes steps backwards from him. She's panting and her heart is racing)

CADOC
It's...quite overwhelming what we don't see right?

AVA
(She sits and takes a deep breath)
It's a bit too much for me. My eyes hurt.

CADOC
Well that's why Humans shouldn't see what we see for too long.

AVA
What do the Lamaroks see? If...I'm to see what they see even for a second I will certainly go blind.

CADOC
It's too much for Humans. Even Apertures can't fully understand. Because we've never seen. They don't have a relic like we do.
Their ability is known only to them...but they see more than we do.
(Pause)

AVA
Cad. I'm still scared you're leaving to that Hearth.

CADOC
(He draws her into a hug)
I'll be fine. I promise I will be. I'll only take care if you take care. Will you?

AVA
I will Cad. (Smiles)

Next on Grey Ambience.

His eyes light red and Jane staggers backwards. She's shaking and pointing at the letters above people's heads. The whole world glitches into black and red.
Then it all pales into grey again. She falls down panting and breathless.

You're the first person to see what I see. The pain is there because you're only a Human.
