The room was thick with tension as one of the robed figures stepped forward and reached for Mira’s unconscious body. His movements were deliberate, cold, and filled with an unsettling purpose. But before he could touch her, Matthew sprang to life.
“Wait! Don’t you dare touch her!” Matthew roared, his voice echoing off the ancient walls. Without hesitation, he lunged at the hooded man, throwing a punch that landed with a sickening thud. The robed figure staggered back, momentarily caught off guard.
Matthew readied himself to strike again when a firm grip suddenly seized his arm, stopping him mid-motion. Startled, he turned to see Ryan holding him back.
“Stop, Matthew,” Ryan said, his voice calm yet chilling. “Don’t do this. Just stop.”
Matthew froze, confusion clouding his face. “Ryan? What are you doing? What’s going on?” His voice faltered as he processed Ryan’s unnatural calm. Before he could react further, the hooded figure struck him hard on the back of his head, sending him crumpling to the ground.
Matthew groaned and managed to prop himself up on one arm, his vision spinning. He looked up to see Ryan standing beside the hooded man, a sly grin spreading across his face. Ryan turned, walked over to the dean, and shook his hand.
The sight struck Matthew like a lightning bolt. “Ryan, what is this? Do you know them?” he asked, his voice shaking with disbelief.
