I watched a plump figure behind my new headmaster's table. Her chubby stumpy fingers intertwined with each other. Clasping and unclasping at interval. She pushed the small glasses resting on her nose inwards, as she tipped her head down trying to scan through documents. She handed a brown folder to me.
“That contains the map of the school, the list of your subjects, schedules and your dorm number is 26E8.” My new headmaster informed.
I slowly nodded soaking in the fact that I needed a map to navigate the school. I guess six months in map reading class paid off after all. I exited the office on my way to my dorm. From the map my dorm was located on the east wing of the school which was not so far away from the office. As I passed by corridors I came across at least three students hanging around. I finally reached my dorm room. ‘26E8’ boldly carved into the wooden door. Quite pretty actually. It gave the corridor a kind of rustic cottage, homey feel to it. I gently tapped on the door silently hoping I didn’t have a roommate.
“Come in.” A voice from inside ordered.
I stepped into the room and the first thing that hit me was a flood of pink. Pink lights, pink bedroom, pink curtains. It looked like a toddler's room. I gagged a little in my mouth at the sight. There was a girl sitting on a chair in midst of two twin beds. She took a sip out of the drink in her hand.
“Aliana Vantrez.” The girl said slowly. “We’ve been expecting you.”
I watched the girl. I was obviously confused. How did she know my name? Did she say we?
“I’m Natalie.” She introduced excitedly. “Natalie Greenwood. But you can call me Nate.”
Um okay that’s odd. Who in the world would be excited to see me? Well my answer was right in front of me.
“You're my new roomie. I’m so excited that you’re here Ally.” She ranted. “Wait can I call you Ally?”
“Sure.” Was the only thing I could say.
She grabbed me by the hand out of the dorm.
“I have a surprise for you.” She squealed. “Well not me alone because Nir did the planning and decoration so technically it wasn’t only me.”
She looked at me and laughed at my confused expression.
“You look cute when you’re confused.”
Cute? No one ever said that to me. I pondered on what she said for a while and observed her. Maybe she was just being nice after all she’s been nothing but a sweet angel. She entered a room that was labelled in a language that I couldn’t read.
“Surprise!!!” I heard people yell.
I turned my attention from the door to a group of people who looked ecstatic to see me. A girl walked up to me. Actually she sashayed to me.
“I’m Vania.” She said.
She leaned into my ears and whispered.
“Don’t see our kindness to you as a weakness. I will strike back harder than you will ever if you betray us.”
She gazed at me. Her python like eyes never leaving my eyes. Her smile to anyone was sweet but to me I interpreted quite the opposite. Though her gaze was threatening I refused to break eye contact. I was not going to be seen as weak.
“Ania you are terrible at first impressions.” A boy from behind yelled.
Vania placed her hand on my shoulder with an irritated smile on her face.
“Don't worry I’m as friendly as a puppy.”
Something told me that we won’t get along.
“I think we need to keep you on the leash.” The same boy said.
Everyone laughed. So did Vania. Not a someone-told-a-funny-joke-kind-of laughter. This one was far from it. From the corner of...
