The Mystical Wake
The undertakers carefully placed the body inside the wooden coffin. Then, they pushed the coffin into the hall at the funeral home.
It was the wake of Mr Moth, the village scavenger. He was found dead two days ago by the church gardener when he was raking the dry leaves in the church grounds. Mr Moth’s lifeless body didn’t look like he was murdered or battered to death. Nor did he have any ailment or malady. The cause of his death was not known.
Almost all the villagers turned up for the wake to pay their last respects as word went around that there was something mysterious about the deceased. They flocked the funeral home that day to witness it. They could not figure out why ants were crawling all over the body lying in state. There wasn’t anything sweet in the casket, that’s for sure.
When it was time to close the coffin, all of a sudden, a black cat jumped over it. Mr Moth sat right up, to everyone’s surprise. The villagers screamed in fright and ran helter-skelter. The coffin was almost knocked over in the event. The movement made Mr Moth lay down again and his mouth was wide opened. Countless ants started crawling out.
The undertakers nailed the coffin quickly and carried it into the hearse and thereafter, to the cemetery for burial. The police and hospital were blamed for not investigating the case. In turned out that, Mr Moth slipped and fell face down on an ant hill and ants built a nest inside his mouth. Who could ever guess that?
