The Man at the Door
It's foggy out, and today was very exhausted; the job really took it out of me, and my back hurts, and my shoulders hurt. I brush my teeth, get my PJs, and hop in bed with a little light on. I hear this knock at my door; the clock says 11:20 is this really happening right now? Knock! knock! Who could be knocking at 11:00 p.m.? I get out of bed, and turn on the lights, and I look through the door hole. There's a man with a little mustache, and short hair, and he is wearing a robe, and it's like this white robe.
Who could he be? I opened the door and he said hello Mark. Standing there puzzled, but I don't know this man, sir, I know you? He answered, yes Mark you knew me when you were a little child, and getting to the teenager years, but we stopped talking when you hit 28; something happened. I said sir come in and take a seat please.
I shut the door, and led him to a chair. Sir let me get you some coffee, and He said thanks I'd like that. I handed him a cup of coffee, and I sit down wondering where do I know this guy? The Man started to say, Mark remember the time you preached in the youth group, and you were a minister to amazing kids? I sit back in my chair shocked that He would know that, and I answered yes. He said remember when you were being really used, and than there came a day someone lied to you, about having a relationship with someone, and going with them at night?
Looking down I answered, you heard about that rumor, that never happened? He said oh I heard about it, and I know it wasn't true at all; they were jealous of you teaching in the classroom. Tears started running down my face, and I said sir I am 40 years old now, and that happened when I was 26 years old, and I never taught another Sunday school, or been back to church because they ran my name through the mud. The Man handed me a handkerchief, and sir I miss teaching about Jesus, and letting Him move in the class, but I didn't want my name through the mud, so I stepped down. He said you been miserable haven't you?
Yes, sir was my answer, and He said you have been running away from your call for many years haven't you? Tears down my face, yes I have, I just couldn't take the gossip no more. Wiping my eyes, He said; remember that day though before someone lied on you? You mentioned "It is in the fire that we are gold.". Could it be Mark, that God was making you gold? Mark the hurt was too make you gold for the Kingdom of God, and it was not to harm you.
I sit my coffee down, and my hands in my face. I said I have been, so hurt and sometimes you just don't try no more; He put His hands on my shoulders, and said let the peace of God dwell where there is hurt. His hands began to give me a peace, that was not from this world. He said thank you for the coffee, but I must go now, my time is up. He said, go back to church, and began to teach again. I said with Gods help I can; He said promise me, you will get involved, and my voice said I promise. He got up and started heading out the door, but He gave me a big hug and said don't worry things will be alright. He started down the road, until He was out of sight, and I laid down in my bed, but I heard a voice that use to be familiar to me, and He said thank you for the coffee.
