That pink dress
Sarah had spent most of her childhood in deprivation. She had only two pair of dresses. A schooldress and other a more informal one. She would take care to wash and iron it with care so that it would always look new. She was often bullied because of her clothes. The rich kids of school could not understand why she wore the dresses stitched by her mother. The concept of a Mom
on sewing machine and spend hours and hours of her time, efforts and love poured into each knot, stitch made was an alien thing to them. Even Saarah herself could not understand the depth of her Mother's affection at that time.
She would daily see beautiful dresses displayed on the mannequins in the shops, while returning home from school and curse herself for being born in such a poor family.
The desire to own a designer dress had increased as she turned into a beautiful young woman. Finally she graduated and got an internship where she earned barely enough to make her ends meet.
Arnav saw Saarah first time beside Meena bazaar's showroom. He just stared at her while Saarah admired that pink gown in display.Saarah knew she couldn't afford it yet but she could still try it and then return it.Just to get a feel of it. It was a baby pink gown with not a very deep neckline but with minimalist stone work on the net fabric.Exposed very little yet tantalized enough to make anyone lose their senses. Folds that flowed all around had intricately woven white flowers with golden thread lining over them. The plain net sleeves that only showed a little hint of skin.
She twirled in front of the life size mirror.Loved the way cloth floated with every movement. Arnav just stood stunned. Such a pretty creature in pink. Was she real... Was he in dream...

"Hi I am the store manager of this place... W.. Would you like to buy that one.. " He said at last, found his voice but his heart was lost.

"Umm..no.. You see it is not my colour.. "

"W.. we have some other brilliant dresses if you would like to buy"

"No.. no.. I m getting late"

She made her way out of the shop real quick, stopped a bit and looked at that dress displayed and then walk away.
Daily her feet would bring her in the direction of the shop. Arnav loved to see her.He would always manage to stop by and chat. Over the time, he had become a friend of sorts for her.
On the new year's eve he bumped into her at her office.

"Hi ", he said and handed her a rose.

"I didn't know.. we were to meet today", She blushed pretty.

"I..I..I ." He swiped a hand on his forehead and flicked some of his hairs back.

"Will you marry me ? Here I have said it and it would be ok if you don't have any feelings for me,but know that I will always love you Saarah. "

Saarah was over the moon. She had waited for his confession for such a long time. She had saved some money for herself. She would now buy her dress. She would have a perfect wedding, with a perfect dress with the love of her life. She could already picture both of them had cut the cake and fed it to each other.
That night she couldn't sleep. God has finally bestowed her with his benevolence. After three months of seeing each other, they were to be married. She was happy as she had brought her dream dress home.

"Darling..could you wear something traditional on our wedding. My family is a bit conservative." Her face had fell off at that.

"You know you could always wear your dress on our honeymoon trip, where I can, not only see you in it, but feel you in it too. "

And so she decided that her man was more important, dresses can be worn anytime. She could always wear it later like he suggested.
Uncle Brijesh had wanted to meet them a day after their wedding. They wanted her to know all about their rituals and customs and it took a week for them to leave Uncle's house,  so they postponed the trip.

"Honey... I think I am pregnant..." She told Arnav one month after their marriage.

"Then how would you travel in such condition.. No.. no.. You must rest for time being. We could always go on that trip later "

Saarah could feel pink dress, it glared at her everytime she opened her closet. Accusations of ignoring it can be felt in .

When her son was only a year and half Arnav suddenly left for heavenly abode, someone decided drinking and racing was a cool thing, ran all over him.The pain of not seeing him look and smile while he sipped his morning tea,ate her away. Their sweet banter over dinner, their make up sessions later. She just missed him too much.
As time passed she just couldn't bear to look at her dress it was a cruel reminder and had shoved it in a trunk.
Many years later, one day when she was cleaning out things to make room for her son's bride, she found the pink dress still as pretty as ever. She decided to try it once, just like that day in the Shop many years ago.
She twirled similarly in front of a large mirror but instead of a beautiful creature shimmered in pink. She found white lifeless hairs swung in air. Face that glowed with youth once was now heavy with wrinkles. Eyes that sparkled with dreams to fullfill , had dulled with harsh experiences. She just couldn't look at her image in mirror and tore the dress, declared it hideous.
