birthday boy
"I don't get why you don't like him!"

"he's rebellious! he doesn't listen to anyone, patrick! he breaks the rules!"

"you haven't even met him! you don't know him, mom!"

"he isn't coming to your party, I won't hear of it anymore!"

patrick huffed, pouting more when he lost the argument.

"go get ready, your friends will be here any minute!"

"I don't see why I've got to get dressed up for this, mom." patrick grumbled, stomping off towards his room.

"because it's nice, and you look cute!"

patrick sighs, rolling his eyes as he closes his door, and the first thing he did was call pete- mostly to inform him that he was not allowed to the party.

"mom said no." patrick pouted at the computer screen as he pete answered the skype call.

"I figured so," pete chuckled, shaking his head. "oh well, I'll get your present to you somehow." he shrugged.

patrick huffed, pulling his shirt over his head. "I don't even care about the present, pete. I just want to see you." he held up two dress shirts, wanting pete to pick for him.

"the blue one," pete points to the shirt and patrick nods. "and don't worry about it. you'll see me one way or the other."

it was clear he was cooking up a plan, and patrick always loved when he did that- even if sometimes they were ridiculously stupid.

patrick chuckled, dressing himself as pete went on about how he hopes patrick has the best time- even if he would not be there.

"I'll try, I'll try." patrick agrees, smiling at his boyfriend.

"'trick, c'mon, people are here!" kevin yelled from the other side of the door.

patrick sighed, glancing at the door before looking back to pete. "I've got to go. I'll talk to you in a bit."

"oh, alright," pete smiled, waving to patrick. "bye, have fun, birthday boy! love you!"

"love you too, idiot." patrick laughs, hanging up the call.

another harsh knock. "'trick, let's go!"

"I'm on my way out!" patrick pouted, stepping out of the bedroom.

they all had fun, eating pizza and cake, and brendon did not miss the chance to smear icing all over patrick's face. everyone talked and laughed and watched patrick open his gifts. they all acted like children, laughing and joking. someone even managed to get patrick a rather inappropriate gift- his face burning red with embarrassment as they made jokes about he and pete using it.

by eleven the last party guest had left, and patrick was finally back in his room, showing pete all the gifts.

"and, uh..., and bren got me this..." patrick mumbled, showing pete the last present. the stupid toy he had somehow managed to get past his mother. he had no idea why he even kept it- other than he was just too embarrassed to have to hand it over.

"what!" pete laughs, watching patrick's face go red as he hid it. it took a moment, but pete finally calmed down and patrick kept his face hidden. "of course he would do that," he said with a few more hiccups of laughter.

"I don't necessarily want it, but I was too scared to give it back to him." patrick pouted, looking up from behind his hands.

"awe, poor baby," pete chuckled- to which patrick only pouted more.

"hush!" patrick huffed.

the two talked for at least another hour, patrick having to go because his mother still gives him a bedtime. though, it does not really bother him tonight, he was too tired from the party to stay up for much longer.

it never took much to wake patrick, so the tapping on his window were enough for him to be pulled from his sleepy state- mostly because it scared him.

"oh, pete," patrick mumbled, opening the window to allow his boyfriend in. "what are you doing here?" he asks, rubbing his eyes sleepily.

pete smiled, joining patrick on the bed. "I'm here for your birthday, silly." he chuckled, wrapping an arm around patrick's shoulders, letting him lean on him.

"but it's over..." patrick frowned. "it's past one!"

"but I wasn't able to be there, and you've still got a present to open."

"can't it wait til monday?" patrick whined, snuggling pete. "I'm s'eepyyyy!"

"baby, c'mon, please? just open it and then I'll go and you can sleep."

"I don't want you to go though..."

"then I'll stay and we can snuggle, just please, open your present." pete sighed, holding out a small gift bag to the sleepy boy.

patrick giggles, opening the gift, smiling big as he pulled out a grey mushroom jacket. "it's the jacket I wanted!" he said excitedly, hugging it to his chest. "and it smells like you!" he giggled, looking at pete with a huge smile.

"yeah!" pete smiled back. "I remember you were looking at it, but you never had the money."

"thank you, petey!" patrick said happily, hugging pete tight.

"of course, baby boy." pete said, hugging back.

patrick pulled away, putting the jacket on happily. "and it's just a little big so it's more snuggly!" he giggled, zipping the jacket before latching himself onto pete once again.

"I'm glad you like it, baby," pete laughed softly, situating himself in the bed, holding patrick close.

"can we watch a movie?" patrick smiled, grabbing his laptop.

"whatever you want, sweetie."

patrick smiled still, turning on a disney movie to watch before ultimately falling asleep in pete's arms.

this was the best birthday ever.
