The Ones We Left Behind, Never to be Forgotten
My Mum and I sometimes visit my Grandparent's graves in Fourmarks Village, near Alton, just to feel we are closer to our Grandparents and to say a warm hello. Visiting Fourmarks reminds me about some of the special moments I spent with my Grandmother Jean Scott and Cousin James when I was a child.
My grandmother used to show me ancient black and white photos, she kept and preserved safely, stored in a metallic grey safe and hidden below the wooden floorboards. She showed me photos of herself and her friends when they were young teenagers, congregating together on the coast, during one summer's day. She used to study in school in school during the 1940s. The Second World War raged on until September 1945. My Grandad at age 18 continued working as a Royal Engineer and was assigned to conduct clean-up operations, maintenance and repair work duties in Singapore, during 1946 and shortly after the Second World War ended.
