River of Love
Peter and Bianca are best friends but
Peter lives in Ala-mma town. It has a fertile land, fruit trees, clean rivers, but there is this particular river called "River of Love" with beautiful flowers that grow beside the river, trees and colourful birds living on the trees. These flowers glow at night. It was believed that the flowers and trees was planted by one of their ancestors called Ndu and his lover. Some said it was a god who came down to pour his heart out, his tears made the plants to glow, so Ndu found the place and claimed it. Some said Ndu was a powerful gods. others said Ndu and Amaka are both gods. Others believed that they will find true love by the river bank, which worked for some of them. Others believed that if they visit the river with their lover, nothing can separate them except death. Others don't believe in it but loves the glowing flowers. and this flowers can't be ploughed.
There are all sort of stories concerning the river.

While Bianca comes to the Land of Ala-mma during the festive period with her parent. she is a native of that land. Her father was born and brought up there. When she was 10years old she met Peter who was 12years old at her grandma's house. She visited her great-grandma who stays with her grandma and Peter came to drop some firewood he got for Bianca's grandma to cook with.
The great-grandma asked both of them to sit and she said to them, "Let me tell you the story behind the river called River of Love in this ....". she said. Calmly and slowly.

"I have been passing through there but I keep asking myself why is the river called the River of Love" Peter interrupted. He was excited to know more about the river. people were saying all sort of different story about the river some believed it was a god who came inform of human and named himself Ndu.
"Okay, my child can you allow me to tell you about it without interrupting my story" great-grandma said.

"Sorry ma. I won't say anything again until the story ends" he said. Bianca on the other hand wasn't saying anything cause she had never gone to the river before.

Great Grandma began...
"The River of Love wasn't as beautiful as that, it was just a mere river almost naked, there was no fish, no plant except for bamboo. People don't normally go there cause they said the river is far from the town and there are other near by river they can fetch water from. Ndu is a guy who loves farming but his father always wanted him to knit baskets cause it was passed from generation to generation. Ndu has an elder sister. Him and his sister are the only children his parents gave birth to. He mostly go to the river now know as River of Love to play alone.
One day he met a lady on his way to the river, the lady caught his attention and they both started dating. However, he realized that the lady had been betrothed to a warrior. She never told him cause she was scared of loosing him. The warrior went to war and haven't been back for a while. He found out when the warrior came back and heard his betrothed is seeing Ndu. The warrior threatened to kill him if he doesn't leave his betrothed whom he is about to wed tomorrow. Ndu was shocked and pissed off.

He confronted her...
"Why didn't you tell me that you are betrothed to a warrior? People were telling me this and I confronted you about it but you said it's a rumour, it is not true. I never believed them including my parent. Cause I love you and cherish you. Why did you lie to me? Ndu angrily asked.

she replied "I was scared..."
"scared of what!" he shouted
"I never loved him, my parents forced me" she said sobbing.
She explained how her parents betrothed her to him; that she will get married to him when he comes back from the war. Each day she prays he doesn't come back. Especially the day he met Ndu. She felt like life has smiled on her again.

Ndu felt for her and said sadly "it's already late, tomorrow is your wedding. Why didn't you tell me this all this while. I asked you and you denied it."

she knelt down to beg him "please don't let me to get married to him"

Ndu asked..." what do you want me to do?"
"If you had told me earlier, it won't have gotten to this extent, I could have think of something but now it's late. Go and marry him" he left angrily leaving her weeping on the floor.

He decided to date another lady and she was taking by her father's debtor and sold as a slave to slave traders who passed by their town.

Ever since, he refuse to date any lady for seven (7) years. One faithful day he went to the river as usual, but that day he was thinking about his love life and start sobbing, he said to himself that he is never lucky when it comes to relationship. He stood up from the bamboo seat he made by the river and went to the river to wash his face. Immediately he raised his face, he saw a maiden sitting beside the river and she was gently waving her hands to and fro in the river. He approached her, he saw that she is a very beautiful from the side view.

"Greetings young maiden" Ndu greeted
she refuse to reply
he greeted again "Greetings young maiden" what are you doing here all alone? he asked

she looked at him still moving her hands to and fro gently in the river, then look back into the water and replied, "greetings...how may I help you?"
Ndu saw how beautiful she is. Her face was smooth like her skin, she very pretty with a long beautiful natural black eyelashes and well carved brows with shiny black eyeballs with a pointed nose and a pink lip. When she spoke, her voice sounds sweet to the ear. He was lost by her beauty.

"No...no, you don't have to help me, I'm the one to help you. I have never seen you in this town before" he said.
she remain silent
"where did you come from?" he asked
she stands up... "from the nearby village and I have to be on my way" she said shyly.
"why?" he asked
"because it's getting late" she replied.
she was about leaving "wait!" Ndu stopped her
"Yes?"
"My name is Ndu what's yours?"
"I am Amaka" she replied then turned and ran away immediately.

"what a beautiful name" he said aloud
she didn't say a word nor turned back
"I hope she comes back " he wispers
he went home joyfully.

The next morning he came and stayed for hours, she didn't show up. He came the next day same thing and the next. On the fourth day he was disappointed; she didn't show up either. he said... "if I don't see this lady tomorrow, I will go to her town, and search for her"

On the fifth day he came and met her sitting on the bamboo seat observing the river bank and the river itself. He was so excited, that he hugged her.
she was got scared.
"why did you do that?" she asked.

"I'm so sorry I had to do that, I'm so happy to see you" he apologized and continue "where have you been? I have been waiting for you for days but you never came back except today" he happily said.

"I don't come here often" she spoke shyly . I only come here when I'm bored.

he sat beside her and they chit-chat for a while, he notice the Amaka is very shy, he tried to make her talk but he did the more talk during the conversation. They became friends and then it led to love. He made Amaka to promise never to leave him and she promised.

Amaka loves flowers, she brought the idea of both of the them planting flower at the river bank, she got a flower seed from her grandma who told her that one day she will know the importance and make use it.
They planted it, Ndu has seen and watched farmers farming on their farm. He planted it; he used the bamboo to make some decoration. and changed the river. he made a very beautiful chair for both of them. Weeks went by and they saw how grown and beautiful the flowers are.
One faithful day, they were discussing and fell asleep due to tiredness. They woke up and it was already dark but the flowers were glowing, the fish Amaka brought and fed are swimming, the trees are still growing. They were surprised and existed, seeing fireflies on the flowers too. Their parents searched for them and found them by the river and saw what their kids did. They were happy that their kids are creative. Udu and Amaka opened up to their parents how they love each other. At first Amaka's father didn't agree to it but he later gave in.
The two lovers always visit there and made it more beautiful for other lovers to go there... they believed even singles can find true love by the bank of River of Love.
That was why it was called the River of Love" Bianca's great-grandma ended the story.
wow that's wonderful... Bianca said
"But great-grandma are the lovers still alive?" she asked
Her great-grandma smiled and said "only one lover is alive."
"which of them and can you please take us to the person tomorrow? " Peter asked.
she is Infront if you. her grandma answered.
great-grandma gave a glowing smile. "
Bianca opened her eyes wide "great-grandma, are you Amaka?" wow. I really need to see this River of Love.
"you haven't seen it yet?" Peter asked
he dragged her by the hand "let's go let me show you the river"
"thank you grandma" they both said and left.

Becareful the grandma said.
Even till now, Amaka never knew where her Grandmother got those flower seeds from. it only grows at the River bank. and it cannot be ploughed.
She believes in years to come, that River of Love will be used for tourism.
