The Road to Grace part 14
Shawn watched in the side mirror as every mile Kelsey drove took him farther and farther away from everything he had ever known.
The strange feeling of sadness of never seeing his hometown again made him look to his Gatorade bottle; that was not Gatorade at all.
Must be the withdrawal or lack of being drunk enough.
"If you need me to pullover at anytime just let me know."
Shawn nodded, "I won't ruin your new car, promise."
Kelsey laughed, glancing to him, "Oh yeah, so new. I'm not worried about that anyways. It's a long drive. I'm just saying whenever you need a break. It usually takes me around fourteen to fifteen hours."
"Why don't you just take a plane when you visit your parents?"
"I don't want to be stuck without something to drive. Definitely don't want to depend on them...uh oh. Speaking of, I forgot about going back there...oh jeez I'll have to fake an emergency."
"Sorry I mess all kinds of things up."
"It's not your fault. I should've thought about it when I went to town to get liquor. What's the worst they can do? Ground me from 900 miles away?"
"Quite true. Unless they get on a plane and beat us there."
"Don't even joke like that. I have nightmares of them moving there."
"Do they ever come visit you?"
"Rarely ever. They always want me to come to them."
"So... I know you're not going to drive fourteen hours straight. You want me to drive in a few hours? Just leave your GPS on."
"Um...how about a big N-O. For one, you're sick and two buzzed driving is drunk driving but thanks for the offer."
"I'm completely under control."
"Right... we'll see in a few hours. At the rate you're going you'll have that bottle gone before midnight."
"I have a high tolerance...not that I'm an alcoholic...I swear...damn you're gonna drop me off on the side of the road somewhere."
"Shut up. I wouldn't drive you away from your house to abandon you. Plus for your information I already told my roommate about you."
"Not in too much detail I hope."
"You're horrible."
"I'm quite aware."
"If...
