Worried or anxious? Read this
(A 5 min read)
Let say for example your exam results are coming And you didnt do the exam well. So what a normal person would do is that, she will start to become anxious a week before the results come. She couldn't eat well or sleep well or could have a good laugh. What her mind usually focus is the different possibilities that could happen on the result day.Her mind runs through various simulations in her head of how things could go wrong.
So what people really couldn't understand is that thinking about what might happen at that day wont change the result. Instead we still try to focus on what might happen and imagining moments what we can't control suffering in anxiety.
As human beings, we desperately want to be in control of our lives, to feel as if we have some sense of power, when it comes to determining where we end up and what we get out of life.
Life is not something that we have total control over.We do not control who loves us.
We do not control what misfortunes may befall us.We do not control when we will die.
We only imagine that we control these things, and so when life feels to not be “going our way,” we worry more intensely and find that our feeling of anxiety has become enflamed.
That’s a lot like what happens when we listen too closely to the negative thoughts that run through our mind, and then generate new thoughts based on those thoughts.
We walk further down the staircase, in which we become “worried about worrying,” or even worse, we become angry at ourselves because we seem to be incapable of not worrying.
So coming to the exam results. Now lets take a different approach. Now this time she understands that she cant control the results by being worried or anxious about the results. So what she does is she focuses on being in the present moment. Everything she does she does it with complete focus and present mindfulness.
When she drinks coffee her mind is completely experiencing the taste of coffee. When she is listening to someone she is completely focused on listening to the other person. Whatever she does she completely focused on doing that alone. 100 Percent complete focus. When you see the result you see the result. After you see the result you only focus on whatever you do at that time.
So when u do this and go along with your daily life you dont allow any time to give ur brain some time to worry about what might happen or worry about what happened.
Suffering only happens in the head. The end result doesnt make u suffer. Its the thoughts about how it might go wrong or what has gone wrong will lead you to suffering. The muddy water is cleared when its left alone. The same is your brain.
People get so in the habit of worry that if you save them from drowning and put them on a bank to dry in the sun with chocolate and a icecream they wonder whether they are catching a cold.
Have a nice day. More importantly have a happy life.
