A Star
“I want a star,” the child said
While lying in her bed.
Her father heard his girl’s request
And knew he would do his very best
To reach into the sky above
And grab the gift for the one he loved
“Can it shimmer and shine as bright
As it does in the sky at night?”
He answered with a tender kiss
Not knowing how to give her wish.
“I dreamed I sat on the moon,
Picking stars like flowers, flooding the gloom.”
So delicate she was with her head on his chest
Like a bird made of silk flying in a tempest
“They were white and round and small, you see.
Hardly bigger than a pea.”
He laughed with a sudden thought,
Knowing exactly what she sought.
He found a shimmering pearl
And gave it to his little girl.
While lying in her bed.
Her father heard his girl’s request
And knew he would do his very best
To reach into the sky above
And grab the gift for the one he loved
“Can it shimmer and shine as bright
As it does in the sky at night?”
