A dog licking the tips of your fingers
A gentle touch that soon disappears
Leaves you with the feeling that you've been loved
and soon abandoned in tears

The fantasy of your father patting your back
Imagined cuddles when you're a wreck
A tight rope around your neck

A friend's arms grab your shoulders:
"You get over it, but in the meantime, so you are"

No solution to find, no places to go
Just be here and stay so.

Never as expected, never pleased.
Life is giving what you need.
