Every step is one more step
up out of the darkness.
Slowly and painfully up and up
out of forty years of pain
and regret.
It's a struggle, every damn
step.
Always I just wish to rest
upon the next step
But then the darkness
might overtake me.
So onward and upward I climb
step by step breaking free of
the past.
Step by step convincing myself
the climb is coming to an
end.
I can see it growing brighter
some days
other day's the darkness closes
in.
