the Christmas Truce
Madness and endless days of violence.
Who were to think it would all fall silent
for a day among many violent ones.
Christmas for all far away from home.
Grieving what's been lost and what is yet to come.

For a moment they were friends,
instead of foes.
Guns laid on the ground,
no worry of tomorrow
when blood would be spilled
acompanied with sorrow.

One day in the war,
they could forget who they are.
Football and friendship.
The soldiers carolling in trenches.
Chattering and peace,
that was the Christmas True in 1914.
