Apples
Today I learned that apples bruise too
they can break and bend, just like I do
discolored and distorted hues
coat the skin
telling of the places it's been
and all the things it went through
yet no one noticed, no one asked
it all seemed to happen so fast
so of course, who knew?
what could anyone else do?
but deep on the inside, bruised apples care too
they aren't sour, they're sweet
so don't shun them, don't push them away
when you come across such apples, ask about their day
there's nothing wrong with any apple
some are simply stuck finding their way
so the next time you ask an apple
"why are you so grey?"
realize that they aren't bad apples,
they're just battered and bruised
and maybe even recovering from being abused
