SEEN THROUGH THE EYES OF A CHILD 🤦
(based on true events as reported on international news)

Dogs howling, scavenging for food, just like us children.
Queued all morning for a bowl of potato soup - never enough to eat,
quenched my thirst with the watery soup but
saved the potatoes to take back to grandpa and grandma.
My grandparents are the only family I have left!
they are too old and frail to queue for rations themselves.

I picked up a mudded leaflet dropped by air,
I recognise the language as my own but can't make out the words,
the only school in our village was bombed before I was born.
Sadly, neither grandpa or Grandma can read or write so no one to teach me.
Never knew my father, he enlisted when the war started, my elder brother and protector joined up last year, I haven't heard from him since.

Lost my mother and baby brother when they were hit by heavy shelling.

Must go now the sounds of gunfire coming ever closer?
I need to find shelter and make sure grandpa and Grandma are all right.
