Over and Older
That hourglass was once my children’s favorite treasure
Hypnotized, I would watch their eyes stare in total awe.
I have no idea why I chose to keep flipping it over and over,
That hourglass hasn’t aged a bit, as I get older and older,
My children now have children, and they ask if they can hold it.
With a stern southern accent, I tell them, “you may not.”
Often they ask “But, Gramma, why not?”
I say quite simply: “watching the time fall away, with Gramma, is not okay.”
“I’ve seen my children grow up and away, yet that hourglass has stayed the same.”
