What's The Use Of War?

❌ WARNING - TRIGGERING ❌

I read a few poems
they got stuck in my head
they weren't what I was expecting
I skipped many pages
cause what I read
was really disturbing
my heart tho bled
as you never think twice
about a soldier's everyday lot
to take someone's life
nah, that's not a job
now I've got those pictures
painted in my head
wish I'd never read them
I'm tied in knots
who would openly volunteer
to be armed with weapons
go out with your brigade
no jokes, no puns
to dispose of so-called enemies
perceived threats or real
to take aim, fire, job done
have hands stained with blood
no second chances
no messing about, that's the deal
send your CV, it's all part of the job
who makes the first move?
that could be their last
who fires the first shot
that's when war breaks out
who aims to kill
aren't they then just like the rest
with loaded kalashnikovs
and bullet proof vests
who wants to be a soldier
that's a dead-end job - but it gets respect
but with a bit of a twist
if they were called killers
would you apply, apply to pass the test
to join that army of killers
obliterate as many as you can
at the end of the day
what's the difference between the two
the use of psychology
on you, and on me
be honest now
there's no difference at all
except
one's in badged army fatigues
the others' lost, completely
he's running wild
in a war of his own
it's a losing game, really
they break out and away
cause they got angry with peace
a soldiers game
it's really a dead-end job

This poem, written after reading a book of poetry about soldiers, war, the after-effects on the former and later, the question, What's the difference?
i it privileges horrible pictures in my mind, so I wrote this to get them out of my head, to let them go. I won't be reading any more...
