Adulthood
#WritcoPoemPrompt91
As kids, one of the scariest moments in our lives is when our parents look at our school grades. What is something similar to this in Adulthood? Write a poem about this.

The Poem :
I laugh to myself,
I used to be scared of failing exams.
Long, long ago,
Just passing wasn’t enough—
It felt like standing on the edge of a cliff.
When they checked my report card,
My heart stopped,
Dropped to the floor,
As I saw the glint of disappointment in their eyes.

But now, I couldn’t care less.
What are A’s?
Passing the papers is the only goal.
Class rankings?
Not a throne I crave anymore.
No more salivating for approval,
No more.

Adulthood—
The scariest part of life I feared the most,
Full of survival and strategies.
Where’s the map?
Where’s my wallet?
Don’t forget the driver’s license.
I’m not scared of failing exams anymore;
Forgetting my ID feels deadlier,
Like calling Death to pick you up
After a miserable day.

No money?
Feels like dying.
People say you can’t buy happiness,
And it’s true—
Only if you’ve got a quarter left.

I’m no longer scared of punishment,
But of taxes,
Bills,
And monthly expenses.
Damn—just dig my grave already.
Shit, shit—
I’m late!
Not for school,
But to pay my electric bill!
