gifted stone
Off to Alabama's Paint Rock River
Two lovers and their lil one
Not quite cool enough to shiver
A rockhounding adventure begun
Chasing stones, arrow points and gems They plan to be out til starry night
Digging along purple toothcup stems
Care not to wreck 'em, leave 'em upright
So she gifted the precious stone,
To a friend, an artist, who'd call it her own,
A poet who'd learn its story and see,
The beauty of the rock, and all it means
She knew this gift belonged elsewhere
An artist, a poet, with eyes that see,
The beauty in simplicity
A distant friend who'd burdens bear

Now the stone resides with the artist
