An Eternal Sleep
I took two breaths that felt like they were but a gentle kiss from the air itself.
I began to feel light headed, and I told my sister that I needed to sit for a bit before I continued with my chores.
I sat down, and laid my head back to rest a bit.
The darkness started to surround me, and I began to feel comfortably numb.
There I was, in the darkness of my un-natural sleep.
I didn't know that Death was there to collect me.
In the shadows I could hear her calling me, and I squinted my eyes to see her better, then she held her hand out to me.
It was my mother
She said to me in her loving voice.
" Yes it is me daughter, it's time for you
to rest."
It is time to come home."
I reached out to her, then I heard another voice frantically calling me, begging me to come back.
It shattered me to hear the pain in the voice that ordered me to wake up, but I also knew that I didn't want to.
I felt exhausted, and weary, and
all I wanted was to rest forever.
I was dieing, but I wasn't afraid.
Death had been waiting for my mistake to unfold. He was there to collect me, and I wanted him to lead me to my eternal slumber.
The efforts that were taken to bring me back, one would say I was given a second chance. Despite Death's presence, it wasn't my time to leave this world.
But I wonder if it really wasn't my time, or did I cheat Death?
If so, is he still lingering at my side?
Waiting for the moment to guide me to where I should have already been.
