When you were my friend
When I once cared,
My heart was open wide,
Full of hope and love,
And bursting with pride.

I gave my all,
Without fear or regret,
And with each passing day,
I grew stronger yet.

I believed in the goodness,
Of all that I saw,
And trusted in the beauty,
Of life's every flaw.

But time has a way,
Of changing one's view,
And as the years went by,
My heart grew more subdued.

The world can be cruel,
And love can be tough,
And though I still care,
It's not quite enough.

For life has a way,
Of teaching us lessons true,
And one of the hardest,
Is learning to see things anew.

So though I once cared,
With all my heart and soul,
I now know that sometimes,
We must learn to let go. When I once cared, my heart was light,
My world was bright and full of delight,
I gave my love without any fear,
And held nothing back, oh how dear!

Each moment spent was filled with grace,
And every step I took, you'd embrace,
Together we laughed, we cried, we danced,
And through all the hardships, we took a chance.

But time went on, and things did change,
Our love once pure, now felt so strange,
The pain grew strong, the joy grew weak,
And soon enough, we could no longer speak.

So now I'm left with memories sweet,
Of the love we shared, of the hearts we'd meet,
And though we've drifted far apart,
You'll always hold a special place in my heart.

For when I once cared, I gave my all,
And though we stumbled, we still stood tall,
Our love may be gone, but the memories remain,
And I'll always cherish them, through joy and pain.
