Stand Tall
Stand Tall
Emma Campbell

A knife against your bark
Carving through your tough skin
Worries of being cut down
Like the rest.
Every storm you worry you will topple
As you never fall
Every breath
A feeling of life.
No emotion
But kind.
Your sap leaking from your wounds
Your leaves swaying in the wind
You shelter life in your branches
In your loving arms
Only to be lit
To be burned and not scream.
But you still stand tall.
No rain
No water
Sometimes you must save the gifts you receive
Only to go thirsty.
As you reach out your roots
To live once again
But still, you stand tall.
You provide shade and shelter
Only to have stakes surround you
Only to have your roots ripped out as you fall
Using you for your natural beauty
But still, you stand tall.
