It's been a while since I wrote
I don't know what to say
Ever word gets lodged in my throat
And bad thoughts I push away


Tears spill when I write
Droplets on the page

I hold the pen tightly
Wishing you were here


Wondering if you're doing alright
Knowing that you are in fear

Last time we met
I hung on too long
You squeezed me and said
"C'mon Mum be strong"

You tell me not to cry
And honestly I try
But nothings filling the void
Of where my youngest son belongs

I'll pen you a note soon
Of this you can be sure
But in the meantime, know
I love you ; evermore
