Childhood Crush
#TheUnrequitedLove

My love wasn't at first sight,
But slowly I started to see you in a new light,
With each small moment that we had,
I searched for love with my eyes clad.

I knew you only saw me as a friend,
But my heart loved to pretend,
My poor heart! illusioned against reality,
Chose the wrong path and lost the sight of clarity.

Crazed with the idea of love,
Imagined love letters carried by doves,
I didn't realise how wrong I was,
Until I ended up becoming the school's farce.

Promised myself I would never confess,
But at the end it ended up becoming a mess,
The way you looked at me grew my hope,
And left me with wishes for better scope.

Confused and trapped I ended up confessing,
It's the only decision in my life that I ended up regretting,
Not only hurt, but totally betrayed,
I lost my best friend to my heart's trade.

Joke was what I became,
You mocked my face and made me look lame,
It was that day when I saw you in a different light,
Everything blurred even though the field was bright.

I believed in you, in a fake,
Ended up falling in love with our friendship at stake,
But what I got beyond all the risk,
Was betrayal with rejection and you left me in a whisk.

Broken and betrayed; was what was left of me,
My love was unrequited as we were not fated to be,
All that is left now are broken memories,
As I lost my best friend to my emotional flurries.

That was the past and I have moved on,
Life is peaceful with a new zeal that burns,
It was just a silly childhood crush, people would
say,
But they only heard my story, not my feelings that lay.
