A Mother’s Love
“I love you.”
Three simple words.
Anyone can lie when saying that.
But not mothers.
Not only is it in their words but in their actions.
Have you eaten?
Don’t forget your jacket.
I made food, come eat it.
Go to sleep baby.
Nine months.
Their body goes through crucial changes, gaining bumps and lumps.
All for you.
Hours to bring you into this world.
So much of her love, just for you
Offering advice.
Listening.
Helping.
They taunt, tease, and teach.
So many different ways that they relay that love to you.
A concept that no one will fully understand, but something you feel and are given from the very start.
A mothers love.
A bucket of water, that will never stop over flowing.
A balloon, that can never pop even with the air that never stops flowing in.
A beautiful flower, that somehow becomes even more magnificent with each passing day.
Just for you.
Only for you.
Always for you.
Your mother gives you her heart every day and she’ll never stop.
Dedicated to: My mom and my aunty who’s giving birth soon. Her upcoming baby shower gave me a lot of inspiration to start this poem. For my grandmothers and all my aunties and all mothers out there. Thank you to Aki and Nokomis.
