Bathroom Cheerleaders
Tipsy,
smiling at my own reflection.
"You're so beautiful!"
Cheerleaders I've never met.
I'd usually be self-effacing
but gave that up three drinks ago.
Squealing a thank you,
and complimenting their outfits -
bonded for the two minutes it takes
to smooth our hair and fix our lipstick.
We give each other advice we won't take
but it feels good anyway,
this moment of incidental sisterhood.
I don't remember their faces
but hope they had a good night.
