Do you ever think of us and cry
do you ever try
even if for a moment
to wonder what if


When darkness closes in
and sleep is no friend
and the hours are too long
do you dare to dream what if


What if you and I had held each other a moment longer
would the bonds have been stronger
would our love have endured the storms to come


What if words had not been spoken
vows not been broken
and in our rush to where we were going
we would have had the benefit of knowing
what really resided in our hearts


Do you ever wonder what if


Is the pain we inflicted
worth the cost of conviction
Wasn't there a path to salvation
to keep our love from breaking
do you ever stop and think what if


What if we tried just a little bit harder
took it just a little farther
Would the touch of my hand still make you tremble


I still remember to much
just a smell or a touch
waves of emotion crashing on the shores of my despair
