I stand by the banks
Of the river I’m to cross
The sight of wrestling waters
The sound of roaring waves
Troubles my shivering nerves

And then a splash of thought:
The tears in my heart
Can’t this water split?

There’s no way around it
I must suffer the heat
Of this barren desert

O what a terrible test
Of this my worrying heart
Let the darkness depart
All worry take the exit
And let life replace it

Let there be no sunset
Let there be no night
But rest for my heart
From all this useless fight
So turn on the light
