Drowning Without Water
The smell of salty air, the press of summer breeze;

Pristine, blue waters with waves no one could tame,

All these memories from my younger self didn't cease,

Like the ocean that hid its depth beyond the reach of any human's whim.

I remembered the splash of water against my bare feet,

As the sun took back its reign from the throne, the moon had occupied,

The sea was enchanting, yet I knew it could bring death,

And swallowed countless of dreams in its choking tide.

With stiff back, shaking hands and shallow breath,

I couldn't help but ask myself, 'Am I wrong about blaming the ocean?'

Gasping for air inside the four corners of the room where at the center I sat,

I got my answer when notifications appeared on my cellphone screen.

'You don't need to be swallowed by the water to feel the pain of being drowned.'
