"Hard Lessons"
"Hard Lessons"

Do you know what it's like
Not having a home to go
Where you can lay down your head
And escape the winter cold?
You wander on the dark streets alone
And you learn a hard lesson what it's all about
You start to wonder what you've gotten into
When all the weird people start to come out
When you come from the country
You feel lost in a big city
It changes your whole perception
Cause things out here aren't always pretty
Just walk to any busy intersection corner
You'll find anything that you're looking for
Things like drugs, guns or WiFi dog collars
To working girls and so much more
Ask anybody from the big city of Dallas
About Harry Hines, Shady Trail, and Mockingbird
You'll see your fair share of hookers and pimps
And hear some new profanity you've probably never heard
But on the lighter side of things where it isn't so bad
You meet some people that make life long friends
They'll stand by your side and always help you out
And always be there for you til the bitter end
All the events that took place in one's life
Everybody has a story on how they ended up out here
Some stories are so far out and way beyond
Nobody's got nothing on them not even William Shakespeare
But if you've never been on the streets
Then I can only try to get you to understand
Not everybody that's out here runs from cops
Cause they loaded down with contraband
Addiction does seem to have it's claws
On most of these 'street kids' souls
It dwindles away their dreams and life
Now addiction is the one that's in control
The problem of mental health
Also comes in to play so
When addiction and mental health mix
Everything tends to become disarrayed
All along the sidewalks downtown
You'll find the homeless sleeping or hanging out
It's sad to see so many
That have to go without
Or some homeless chill in the elevators
At every train station you go
They trying to stay warm
From outside in the bitter cold
Nobody should go without food or housing
In this great America land
Even some of our own military veterans
Have to experience this tragedy first hand
Now if the government wont take care of our veterans
They surely don't have plans on taking care of the rest of us
The U.S government is the LAST thing
That anyone can ever trust
The government fills your head With nothing BUT lies
And you can see the results of this
By going downtown with me And see all the silenced cries
So can YOU imagine what it's like
Not having a home to go
Where you can lay down your head
And escape the winter cold?
