Not a pound
#WritcoPoemPrompt106

My heart fell
between your fingers
soaked in red
a luke-warm, throbbing
piece of flesh
lying bare on an auncel

For the penny I owed
the interest is a pound
on your scale
of whatever meat you asked
yet the very debt you called
was what is left between us

Far too entrenched
in your lingering gaze
even if it's cold like ice
thrusting shards in my chest
when you spoke of my meat
I cannot repay you, for all I try

I asked for fairness
I asked for your truth
for an answer I'd otherwise
have never received
I resigned my heart
perhaps from the start

The scale swung
ever so slightly
dripping in scarlet
like the chilled wine
on your thin lips
smacked with your tongue

With all my life
with all my mind
I looked closely
the place that held my heart
sank -
not a pound, not a penny

I lay my body
on the scale
it took everything
to squeeze in
but it weighted nothing
not a pound, not a penny

Is that all I
ever meant to you?
not a pound?
not even a penny?
in cold blood
you smiled
