Tornado Shelter Hymn

Mama mama
give me that highway
take me away tonight
away from the street lights
into the country
quiet country quiet country its my country
mama give me that beauty
that first love that deep love
the tall one
that one
i'm gonna make her daddy give her away to me
mama
give me that twilight
the first night that mississippi gave me a song
you remember the whippoorwills the whiskey the laughing the late night the dishes the
sunrise
my eyes closing slowly into dreams of tomorrow
give me that world series game 7
give me fresh paint in a bedroom with a new cradle in the corner
give me a graduation jacket and a tussle
give me grandma's wedding ring

my first passport is in my pocket
with crisp hundred dollar bills
i'm ready so ready
i'm not here in this dark place
this war field
this county prison
this ghetto of the tired
this downpour
this cold front isn't lifting
mama i'm so tired mama
mama mama i'm grinding
and i'd do anything to get outta this place
where the storm might just blow me away
mama mama
my head's down my eyes close
my heart is racing
my sweat comes
i'm ready so ready never been more ready and i
i'm thinking in chess moves
it's only me that's gonna take me where i wanna be
i say i only got me
to take me
where i wanna be
that mountain top
the fresh page
that theatre when the lights dim
my
my plane is rising
my plane is rising
plane rising off of the runway
and into the blue sky
that deep blue that rich blue
that true blue
above all this
is where I am gonna be.
