I drowned you tip to toe in empathy
My understanding felt like care
Gentle hands cleaning off the dirt
Your simple existence stripped my soul bare
Talking in whispers so you’d hear me well
Admiring how gracefully you’d unfurled
How happily your sweet nectar dripped
Into everything I could think to do
But far too soon I saw your greens turn blue
I’d poured too much of me
And didn’t notice how empty I felt
Or how I was drowning you
In trying to love you the way I thought best
