The Duchess
On we sat there, our faces with glee
Then came the Duchess, oh her majesty!
With her troupe amass, sounds ahoy
We made way for them, like silly boys
As they passed us by, I swear that she
Really did catch sight of me
Her eyes twinkled, I swear it's true
And I almost passed out, my heart's long due.

When I woke, my friend by me
He said, "wake up, a message from her royalty"
I couldn't believe it, a peasant like me
Would grace the grand duchess, ever so simply?
No second thought, I ran to her
Oh sweet fool, anxiety or none I lack.
For you see, the only clothes I had
Were the ones already on my back.

On I went, I saw her there
Sat comfortably on a maiden's chair
She turned, and said to me
I saw you staring, so jubilantly
And though I felt an inner blush
No person could prepare me for her gentle touch
She gave me food, good clothes to wear
And before I knew it, I woke up, my friend so near
A fever dream? I wondered, so curiously
Oh duchess! it matters not, my heart beats for you, vehemently.
