Mercy
#WritcoPoemPrompt28
She floats like a dream,
Before she sinks under,
Carrying in her folds,
The dying cries of the soldiers...
Hrapped in a shroud.
Hiding in the shadows.
Seeing blood soak the white sheet.
Knowing she didn't have enough weight to pull her down.
Down out of sight.
Out of sight of my fellow soldiers.
Please water take my secret away.
Don't let them see what I have done.
Just floating.
Silent as the night.
Footsteps closing in.
Her body still floats.
Sink.
Please sink.
If they see you they will know.
Ripples of water lick at her sides.
Why did you push me?
You should have left me alone.
I wanted you to run.
You could have been free.
Now you have condemned me.
I gave you a chance.
Now I am seen.
My freedom gone.
My life over like yours.
If only you had run.
