My grandmother's house
My grandmother's house,
My favourite place,
"knock knock"
The smell from the kitchen let's me in.
"Sit down my grandchild, let me give you some food"
Her always first words,
That I can't even refuse even when full,
If I try she says
"You can't eat and leave and leave without eating, eat!"
That really means you must eat
To make her happy,
Besides she makes the best food,
Except for'Mukanya'
Pumpkin mixed with samp,
Our Shona traditional food,
Everytime she prepares it;
She tells the story behind it,
How her mother used to make it for her,
And how her mother's mother used to make it for her mother,
And so much joy is in her eyes
Everytime I eat it
So everytime I pretend to enjoy
Just to see a smile
"Zvino naka" meaning it's delicious in Shona.
I ask for a recipe
She writes it down with a smile.

"You are getting thin"
She's always the first to notice
"Am on a diet granny, I want a flat stomach"
What's with you nower days children,
How do you expect a flat stomach if a to of a stomach is to get food,
Do you want to be like a mosquito?,
We laugh,
That's a way to make you eat,
Every hour in my grandmother's house
It's always time to eat.

"My children have all grown up,
You my grandchildren you are my children"
She always say.

Being in my grandmother's house,
Brings me joy,
And more memories to remember,
Little more time is what I always wish,
In my grandmother's house.

My grandmother's house,
My favourite place.
