Departed
You, the stiff one,
How did you hide your inner shadow,
Behind still eyes,
When the sun was visible
to wash you with light.

Someone wept in silence
until the day was done,
Wishing something with all her heart
for you and her,
until evening's dusky tone.

Before the night fell on her face,
That someone was no one else,
Who believed she could join you,
In your speechless presence.

But she left footprints
On the path away
From your home.
You said there was only affection,
affection alone.

I believe I can forget you,
If I sit still, fading into,
the darkness of the night.
Never mind, I have no dreams,
In my dozing eyes.
