My Soul to Wake
Rise up in the morning
Lie down in the evening
We're all just waiting to die
Race for a moment
Or commit to a sickness
Aren't we all ready to die?
There's a man with a hammer
And he's pounding out laughter
And everyone is ready to show
The hands in their pockets
Their pictures in their lockets
No need to mind the crows. . .
The flowers in the fields
Colorful and pretty
Coins in a sock
Hard and heavy
A whisper on the wind
And a broken levee
Embrace the flood. . .
May it flow over me. . .
