What Now if Not Then
Oh sorrowful soul can they hear
our devotions calling unabated
Unanswered, unsated
Is this not the point of it all
Beyond these efforts we remain
Are these not the ties unsquandered,
the end as of yet untied
Our lives go on yet undevoured
unconsumed in the appetite
of time's ferocity
Can it not to contain
these days an nights daring on a dream
betting upon a love
to sweet to utter its name
Restless and tossed,
turned in this turmoil
of an unmade marital bed
unrested, unawake
I am disheveled unkempt,
uncontained
before the dawn of tomorrow's glow
shine it's warmth anew
this heart's sorrowed promise of reprieve remains unforsaken, unkept
After the thousand lifetimes have passed
& the hard & lonely road
has been all traveled down
Tell me then if this time
has not to come into the past.
I was not to be destined
nor to return to the house that love built.
Memories there so long ago seared sacramental upon my very core
that such is a blasphemous refrain
to proclaim another's...
our devotions calling unabated
Unanswered, unsated
