New Shoes
It's a journey of a million steps and more,
counted each then lost score.

Placed on sand, concrete, carpet, dirt, and,
God knows what on a public bathroom floors,
counted those as four.

Some were composed,
taken in grace,
others not so much,
and more on the face,
nose, ear, or cheeks,
steps counted each.

Some more to stumble,
some on hand and knee,
in light of day, dark of night,
when could and couldn't see,
still counted each.

Some in hope and happiness,
others just plain in hell.
With some,
would see to overcome,
others not so well,
and fell,
so counted each
half equal or double

Steps taken,
some up hill,
some down mountain,
some in thin air,
some on top of ants,
paws,
pants,
and those who did care,
still counted each,
sometimes fair.

A journey,
of a million steps and more,
counted each,
where did it lead?

Halfway there, less or more..

Forth or back to the shoe store.
Shoes in life are quickly worn,
tasked to writing life's path more,
Imprints how way where left for,
places find

One in

miles less
count steps as over a million behind,
or ahead in souls of holes worn thin,
uncertainty by where journey's end,
or of no doubt for where
one were any,
shoe stores found enroute,
than the many more choices
were there to be made
or learned along the way by

All taken

stepped inside at some point in time
for new shoes to find,
Salesman approached inquiring,
offered assistance if so desiring.

Replying agreeably

..size 14 men just the same as these,
something good to walk in,
for a journey to face still awaits,
In souls to see to the end,
would meet feet for shoe needs.
With one,

Added exception

But,
not like these,
Please.
Ones that know when going,
where,
and most importantly,
how to get there.

Shortly later

Left the store
and both feet were bare.
