New Year
Celebrating the New Year
Driving with the top down
Hair blowing in the wind
Breathing the air in so deep
That my lungs ached
Anguish and woe

Longing and to know
That as the calendar year wraps up
The upcoming new year
Is the beginning of the first year
Truly without you
The first entire year
Twelve whole months
Twelve pages hanging on the wall
That, one by one, signify
The time in which it all
Is an entire year without you in it

Somehow, I was holding on to
A year in which you were alive
In my mind
You have been gone for so long
And yet if I turn around
There you might be, just a few
Moments ago

Oh God this pains me so much
I'd had a hunch the year before
That it was your last
We joke that I'm always right
I wish this were a time in which
I could just be wrong
