Fables, and children's stories, parables and myths
Over the millennia, have purveyed romanticized scripts
Fireworks and butterflies,
Heartsick, poetic rhapsody,
If love alters not the very arc of our lives
Then it must not be true love's destiny

But love, in its simplest and quietest course
Can outshine the grandest tales,
Its sword and shield, steadfast and unwary
In real life, ordinary love prevails

Time and again, in myth and legend,
arrows fly with hearts ablaze,
And evil is only vanquished by the most
extraordinary love
Slaying dragons and other-worldly beasts in its name

But, if love remains steady, and stays its own pace,
It's ordinary love that truly wins
In whispered words and hands held tight,
the flames of love, an unending fire within

Love thrives in the normality of the every day
No wars fought or dragons slain by its might
In constant companions and lives shared over time
It's the warming comfort of a constant fire's light

Love, in all its simplicity and grandeur,
Can be found in moments both quiet and sure.
For in the ordinary, hearts are joined
In shared laughter and experience
Its simple bonds are the ones that truly endure.
