Golden Hour
Today I hiked before sunrise.

The cold and darkness clung to me,
stiffening my joints,
pressing down against my ascension.

But as I persevered,
the temperature eased,

and the sun arose!

Orange and golden brilliance,
tempering the dark world,
ushering in another glorious autumn day.

Bright warm rays,
streaking eagerly across the land,
joyfully brushing aside the shadows.

I stood and watched the brief battle,
of which the light clearly won.

And I felt hope surge within me,
for new life,
new beginnings,
fresh starts.

And as I stand in the light,
happy thoughts stir within me —

Today, one of my best friends will become married!

On Friday, a friend and I will study Scriptures!

The year is almost over.

As the golden hour passes,
the hike continues
with much raised spirits.
