NATIVE SOIL

Writer: Dami Rhymes

Peace
a desire that looks so far fetched we do not pursue

Happiness
a state of mind we cannot sustain so lose

Nigeria
my home, my land, my state of mind

A crumpled giant, a shadow of glorious past
Fouled by insecurity and dishonesty

The Aristocrats deceive us with false democracy
They abuse the rule of law yet claim to uphold justice
The law is for the poor the rich ones have no judge

The young are promised tomorrow
They hope and they dream only to perceive the foul smell of sorrow

Tribalism and nepotism are colors we proudly fly
Without second thoughts we wear it with pride

Religion divided us, class separated us
Moral ethics are things of forgotten past

Yet, in all this I am glad
For I see beyond this sorrowful and heart breaking cloud
The future with all its glory and splendor
Mothers land, a beacon of pride
