is it enough?
Is it enough to wake up and say good morning? To get ready and get to work and school? To thank each other and offer an "I love you" as we part? We don't know we'll see each other again, but we expect we will.

Sometimes we're thoughtless, and hurt each other's feelings. Sometimes we're careless, and do things we know might hurt, but we want what we want, so we do it anyway, but we don't mean to hurt anyone. But sometimes, just sometimes, were reckless, and we do what we know will hurt the others intentionally because we want to win. The one that hits the hardest wins.

It's unhealthy, and we know it. We almost immediately regret the decisions to be reckless, and we wish we could apologize. We do apologize sometimes, but it was done willfully and the others know it, so the apology falls on deaf ears, at least for the moment.

Ultimately, we prove ourselves loyal and loving again. It's hard, but we work at it. We take the pain, and subjugate ourselves to the others to win back their affection with the hope and promise not to be reckless again. Can we stay thoughtful and careful? For now, we will. No one really knows the future.

But it takes work every day to keep us positive and hopeful and accountable to ourselves and the others. And we do the work because we know it's right. We know we can fall back into bad habits without the work daily. We become grateful even for the work to eliminate the recklessness as mush as we can from our lives. It's a clean slate, for now, but we know we're not perfect. We'll keep working. Day by day.
